The initiative is designed to raise awareness about global hunger and to raise $10,000 for Heifer International. To do this I will be living on nothing but a bowl of rice and water from June 1-June 30, 2008.

Raising Awareness

-The Blog is the central hub of the awareness effort. It contains:

• Daily updates on my health and my experiences encountering the initiative in the everyday
• A global hunger news feed from the ONE campaign
• A Small Steps page which outlines practical steps that individuals can take to help fight global hunger at home and abroad
• Resources such as book recommendations and articles that help give a fuller picture of the crisis
• Link to the donations page through Team Heifer

-Interviews with local radio, television, and newspaper sources to advocate for awareness and action on the part of my community

-Conversations with friends, family, and co-workers about the initiative and their impact on the global hunger crisis.

-Sharing at churches about, the initiative, what Christ has to say about the hungry, and advocating for a action-oriented response from God's people.

Raising Money

Since 1944 Heifer Project International has been helping stuggling families by empowering them through ecologically sound education and the gift of a farm animal. This organization has been praised by presidents such as Jimmy Carter George W. Bush and has earned numerous awards including the Hilton Humanitarian Prize. Using only 25% of all donations for operating costs it exceeds the Better Business Bureau's standards for an accredited charity.

-Money can be donated in support of Heifer through the Initiative blog or by check sent to Heifer.
