Reconcilliation is often touted as something that will happen when the perpetrator issues an apology to the offended. This is not how the Father operates. When we were enemies He sent His son to be the propitiation for our sins. The Forgiveness from the offended (grace in Christ) came first, and produced the apology (repentance) in the perpetrator.
Reconcilliation in this world, between races oppressed and oppressor, between abuser and abused, between humanity and God, can only possibly happen when forgiveness is offered freely by the offended to the offenders.
Have you been offended, assaulted, oppressed, abused? Freely forgive as you have been forgiven in Christ. Seventy times Seven if you must. Your perpetrator's sin was judged and condemned in the cross, and there is no longer any basis for holding on to resentment apart from selfishness.
Man, it's hard, but possible. If Jesus said to do it, it can be done - by Him through us. |
