Every time I preach at my church (usually once a month), I tell the scripture, rather than just read it. The method is known as Biblical Storytelling and it is a lost art in most of our Christian circles. It seeks to reclaim the oral tradition, and there's really not much to it, but taking some time to internalize (not just memorize) the story. Most people tell me that it impacts them much deeper than a reading, and it often brings greater insight than any sermon or message. And all I'm doing is telling a story that has already been there all along. It's also a form of narrative theology, a way for us to see ourselves in the midst of God's story. Maybe, just maybe, this is helping us revise our framing story.
