SONSHINE ACADEMY

In January 2009 we hope to open the Sonshine Academy which will be an affordable private primary school for children in underprivileged communities of South Africa.

Education in South Africa is very good, if you can afford it, most cannot.

A child in South Africa has a great chance of being raped than of learning to read and write. This is a shockingly true statistic. We hope to change this.

Camp Sonshine Africa is a registered non-profit organization in the US who raise funds to support various projects run in underprivileged and developing communities in South Africa. Camp Sonshine Africa currently supports a year-round after school enrichment programme whose aims are to keep children off the streets, giving them a safe, caring environment where they can just be children. This programme also assists children with basic skills such as reading and writing as their current education level is very low and leaves most of them far behind their appropriate grade level.

Camp Sonshine Africa also supports school holiday programs and an annual camp program where children enjoy a variety of activities in a loving and caring environment.

Our next project is to open a the Sonshine Academy where children can be educated to an appropriate level which is the only way the cycle of poverty and unemployment will be broken in these communities.
